The pendulum effect.

Just because the school year started...

Does NOT mean summer is over!

Hi Reader!

I don’t know about you, but while it might feel like fall once the kids are back in school, it’s not officially fall until it’s officially fall.

And no, I will NOT stop being in summer-mode until it’s no longer summer.

Yes, I’m still rocking full-on SPF swimsuits and long pants at the pool, because my kids don’t need a crabby, sunburnt mom.

Our back-to-school went well for my incoming 5th and 2nd graders. They were so excited. And me, while I crave routine and a schedule, I’ll admit I miss their little pitter-pattering feet down the hallway during the day.

The thing about this time of year

It’s easy to get caught in what I call the pendulum effect.

One week, everything’s flowin’: groceries are stocked, recipes planned, dinners feel effortless.

The next, life is utter chaos: school, activities, work deadlines, and dinner turns into takeout or random snacks.

That swing is normal. But here’s the part most people forget: you don’t have to swing so far.

👉 The key is having Plan B meals

Meals that take zero brainpower but still get the job done.

A few of my favorites:

  • Pasta + frozen meatballs/broccoli + jarred sauce (15 minutes)
  • Sheet pan chicken + potatoes + carrots (the oven does the work)
  • Nachos: canned beans + rice + salsa + cheese (5 minutes, or 10 if you have any leftover shredded chicken around to add)

Plan A meals (fun recipes, trying new things) are great when you have the time. Plan B meals are your safety net when you don’t.

So as we head into Labor Day weekend, here’s your challenge:

✨ Write down 2–3 easy Plan B meals. Stick them to your fridge.

That way, when the pendulum swings, you’ll land in the middle instead of all the way out.

Keep enjoying the last bit of summer and easing back into routine without the crash. 🌻
