If you want to get healthier... here are:

6 Things You Should Not Do Before 9 A.M.

Hi Reader,

Happy Monday! I have been working on a few projects behind the scenes and hoping to share soon enough with you. Revamping the Ultimate Dinner Planner to include some easy recipes is one of those projects, as well as creating an eBook to stop bingeing. Stay tuned.

This week, I’ve got a little something for everyone: An Eating Well article I was quoted in, it’s technically about weight loss, but my non-diet perspective makes it about healthy behaviors.

Plus, some thoughts on why change feels so hard and what to do about it. Take what you need today!

A non-diet perspective about weight management - yes that exists😉

Trying to lose weight can be frustrating. “Many clients come to me chasing a ‘healthy weight,’ but what they really want is to feel better in their bodies,” says Marissa Beck, MS, RDN, founder of REVV Health.

😵 Inside Marissa’s head: why changing eating behavior is so hard

Thanks, Backstreet Boys...

Tell me whyyyyyy?

If you’ve been working with me 1:1 or in the non-diet SHIFT, you’ve probably heard me say, “change is hard.”

Many people think that once they join a program or start nutrition counseling, it will magically get easier.

And yes, in some ways, it does get easier. You have support. You have someone on your team helping you troubleshoot and understand what’s going on in your life. You have help!

But change, especially when it comes to eating behavior and long-standing challenges around food, requires digging deeper.

This is where just “following a plan” or solving “nutritional deficiencies” isn’t gonna cut it. Instead, we have to know the why behind your struggles and the why behind those deeply rooted habits and the thoughts that have kept you stuck.

I am a fan of the Emotional Cycle of Change (above). You’ve probably seen many models of change, but I like this one because it accurately shows what happens when you’re problem-aware, ready to change, and then realize just how much work it takes.

And that’s where most people get stuck.

  • They feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and like they’ve failed.
  • They start to believe that the negative feelings mean they should quit.

But this is the exact time NOT to give up.

Because the messiness and setbacks are part of the process.

You don’t need to force yourself to do things that feel impossible, like getting up at 5:30 AM for a workout when you’re physically and mentally exhausted.

But if you’ve started making changes (even imperfectly), that means you can change.

Where are you in the change cycle? Whether you need the motivation to keep going or somehow to help you get out of the “valley of despair,” I am here to help.

🛒Let’s go shopping together

So, these are items I personally own or have been highly recommended to me. Just so you know, some of these are Amazon affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

But let me be clear: those pennies from Amazon are not what drive these recommendations. I’m sharing these because I genuinely find them helpful and would recommend them to you regardless.

Here are a few things I’m loving lately:

💼 Crossbody Bag:

This one was recommended to me by a colleague who shared it with her followers, and I couldn’t resist getting one myself. I love how it keeps me from overpacking. It only fits the essentials: phone, wallet, keys, and lip balm. Perfect for staying light and organized!

🍫 PRO Bars:

These bars are on my Subscribe & Save every month. I grab one for a quick after-school snack or toss it in my bag for ski days and long hikes. They’re seriously good, high in protein and energy, and super convenient.

👟Kids Kicks:

These New Balance Kids Fresh Foam Sneakers are going to be our go-to for the upcoming Disney World trip. We need comfy, durable shoes for all the walking! And if you have any Disney tips or must-haves, send them my way! We’ll need all the help we can get. 😉
